February 16, 2005
A special luncheon was set up for
the staff of Cottage Six to thank them for going far beyond the call of
duty in volunteering time and effort to the needs of the residents.
Making a group move is not an easy thing to do, but with employees like
those in Cottage Six and throughout Fernald, the transition was easy.

Holiday Wish List & Raffle
December - 2002
This year, once again,
the wishes of Fernald residents and of residents in area homes were granted.
This effort was accomplished with the help of staff members at the Fernald Center
and area community residences.
Schools, businesses, churches, municipal service agencies and
individuals in the area filled many of the wishes. A group of dedicated volunteers
wrapped, tagged and distributed the gifts to ensure that everyone had a bright
holiday season.
Our special thanks to
the people who supported our raffle ticket sales. Each year you come forward
and it is sincerely appreciated.

Mount Feake Monument
Unveiling
Wednesday - October 30, 2002
READ AN ARTICLE ABOUT THE EVENT
At Mount Feake
Cemetery, the central city cemetery in Waltham, Massachusetts, there exists a plot
of land in which over three hundred individual are anonymously buried. These
individuals came from the Fernald School, Metropolitan State Hospital, or were
residents of the town who did not have the means to afford a monument with their
name. On October 30, a monument was unveiled in their honor.
This monument is
sponsored by the Met-Fern Cemetery Project, a part of a nation-wide effort to ensure
that previous residents of institutions serving individuals with mental illness or
mental retardation are provided a truly dignified, respectful and lasting place of
rest.
Directions
Mount Feake Cemetery
is located at 203 Prospect Street in Waltham, Massachusetts.
From Route 128/95,
take Exit 26 towards Waltham, Route 20. Stay straight on Route 20 (E. Weston
Street). Take a right where Route 20 becomes Main Street. At the stop
light located at the intersection of Main Street and Prospect Street, take a right
onto Prospect Street. The cemetery is approximately half a mile form this
intersection. Signs will be posted in the cemetery directing individuals to
the site.

The inscription on the

IN TRIBUTE TO
THE INDIVIDUALS INTERRED HERE
WHO RESIDED AT THE FERNALD CENTER AND
METROPOLITAN STATE HOSPITAL
AND THOSE FROM
ALL OTHER WALKS OF LIFE
MAY THEIR MEMORY
CONTINUE TO SHINE
AND NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
A place in thy
memory, dearest,
Is all that I claim,
To pause and look back when thou hearest
The sound of my name.

MEMORIAL SERVICE
Held - June 11, 2002

A memorial service to honor all residents, employees and family members
who passed on within the last year was held on Tuesday, June 11th at the Fernald
Chapel. It was a beautiful tribute to those lost over the last year. Family
member, co-worker, client or friend was remembered with music, poetry and reading
each name and sounding a chime. After the service, over 50 balloons were
released in a touching tribute.
Outside after the
ceremony, there was a dedication of a resting bench made in honor of Anne Kelley's
father - George Dezotell.

Anne Kelley & Alice Barry
Then Fr. Bill Leonard
