NEWS

We are sure you have all heard that the Fernald Center is supposed to close in July, 2010.  We would like to assure all our loyal supporters and volunteers that whether or not the Center will close, we will still be a very viable organization.  We shall alert you to any change in location of the office.

At holiday time, we have always served many outside homes for the mentally challenged.  We have been serving 11 homes from Waltham to Framingham as long as we have had our "Wish List" program.  We try to follow the residents when they are moved to an outside facility.  This year, we may service as many as 19 outside homes.  WE WILL STILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!  Sorting gifts for so many more facilities will b more work, but our plan is to serve as many residents as in the past; if changes arise we will keep you informed.

Our mission addresses not only Fernald residents, but is inclusive of all mentally challenged folks in the general area of the Fernald Center.

Sincere thanks to the sponsors,

WALTER E. FERNALD ASSOCIATION
AIDS IN DONATION TO THE NEW
COMPUTER CENTER

The Fernald Computer Center was up and running in September at the Activities Center - thanks to the hard work of some very dedicated occupational therapists and some very special contributors and volunteers. A generous gift was made to the Fernald Association by George Mosher, President of National Business Furniture, in memory of his sister, Jean. A vote was taken by the Board of Directors of the Fernald Association and it was unanimously decided to use the gift for the Computer Center -- for equipment and software.
The new addition is pictured above.

Within minutes of arrival, it was up, running and on the Internet.
The large monitor has been a "wish list" item for quite a while and it is now a reality.

Many thanks to Tom for his great photography skills in taking these pictures and the ones that grace the computer center "walls."

WALTER E. FERNALD ASSOCIATION
DONATES DEFIBRILLATOR TO
THE FERNALD CENTER

The Board of Directors of the Fernald Association voted to allocate funds to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator for The Fernald Center.

The defibrillator will remain at, and in service for, the Fernald Center.

A demonstration of the defibrillator's use was given at the monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Fernald Association in August.

It is a welcome and much needed addition to The Fernald Center.
